PROGRAM DETAILS

THE 2024 HOOS FIRST LOOK COHORT APPLICATION IS NOW CLOSED!

Please check back in the spring for the 2025 cohort application!


HFL Plan for 2024 Cohort:  

Our program will consist of two separate cohorts. One will be exclusively virtual (the virtual cohort) and the other will be in-person (the in-person cohort).  


2024 PROGRAM DATES AND INFORMATION:

FINALIZED PROGRAM DATES: 

  • In-person: Saturday, September 28th 
  • Virtual: Saturday, October 26th
  • REQUIREMENTS:  Must be a high-achieving, low-income and/or first-generation junior in high school for the 2024-2025 academic year  


HFL Timeline:

Sunday, May 12th, 2024:  2024 HFL cohort application released  

  • Application will be sent via email to high school counselors that HFL has had previous contact with and posted to our website 


Saturday, June 15th, 2024 @11:59pm: 2024 HFL cohort application closes for the early admissions cycle 

  • Applicants who apply by this date will be provided with detailed feedback on their essays and things to consider when applying to college later 


Saturday, August 10th, 2024 @11:59pm: 2024 HFL cohort application closes for the regular decision cycle 

  • Applicants will receive a decision but no feedback on their essays 
  • Date is subject to change based on when registration for Fall Fest closes

September 2024:  2024 HFL in-person cohort meets on grounds

  • In-person: Saturday, September 28th 


October 2024: 2024 HFL virtual cohort meets on Zoom

  • Virtual: Saturday, October 26th


Decisions Release:

Early decisions released: July 2024

WHAT IS HOOS FIRST LOOK?

Hoos First Look is an annual academic enrichment program in the Fall semester for low-income/first-generation, rising juniors in high school. HFL is dedicated to giving prospective students a taste of college life by providing them with resources on the college-application process and financial aid/scholarships, the opportunity to build strong relationships with their cohort and mentors, and the knowledge to achieve academic and personal success, ultimately inciting their interest in UVA.
